Neo-rural phenomena. — The reflux movement to the country away from the towns which is one of the characteristics of the so-called post- industrial civilisation, offers two aspects amongst others which are represented principally in southern France. On one hand, there is the question of renovated villages, villages which were more or less completely abandoned and then restored by secondary residents, retired people, executives and their equivalents; the author suggests research themes concerning the evolution and the problems of this new category of rural agglomeration. On the other hand, the neo-rural immigrants, amongst whom neo-artisans and neo-peasants can be discerned, represent a movement which has developed since 1968 and has reached major importance in certain deserted regions. The evolution of the movement, the different categories of the neo-rurals and the reactions very often unfavourable, of the rural milieu are examined in succession.
