SPECIAL algorithms were developed using digital image analysis and pattern recognition techniques for orientation of fresh market tomatoes and classification based on size, shape, color and surface defects. Performance testing of the classification algorithms demonstrated the feasibility of applying computerized visual inspection to tomatoes.
