We have studied numerically the fluctuations of the conductance, g, and the applicability of single parameter scaling in two-dimensional disordered noninteracting systems. We have checked that the variance of ln0. 2em{0ex}g varies with the lateral sample size as L^2∕3. In agreement with this, we have introduced a parameter to establish the applicability of the single-parameter scaling (SPS) hypothesis. We have found that SPS is satisfied in two-dimensional systems, except for the fluctuation states in the band tails, where a second parameter is needed.
