This study was designed to determine what concepts Indian mothers have of the ideal child in terms of what they believe should be encouraged and discouraged and to compare the results with the concepts of parents in the United States and experts on creative personality. Torrance's Ideal Pupil Checklist was administered to 45 mothers in Indore, India. When the 62 characteristics of the Checklist were ranked, a rank-order coefficient of correlation of. 75 was obtained between the ranks assigned by Indian mothers and American parents; and .11 between the ranks of Indian mothers and experts on creative personality. Both-Indian and American parentsemphasize conformity, obedience, receptive nature of man and de-emphasize independent judgment, guessing and nonconformity.
