Norepinephrine Metabolites as Biochemical Criteria for Classifying Depressive Disorders and Predicting Responses to Treatment: Preliminary Findings

Preliminary findings suggest that levels of norepinephrine metabolites, particularly 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), excreted in urine may provide biochemical criteria for classifying at least some types of depressive disorders and possibly also for predicting the differential responses to treatment with various tricyclic antidepressant drugs.
