Thermosensitive TRPV4 Ion Channel Regulates Brain Functions

KSKoji SHIBASAKI

Key Points

  • This research aims to understand how the TRPV4 ion channel influences brain function and its significance in maintaining brain temperature.
  • Investigated the role of TRPV4 ion channel in sensing temperatures above 34°C.
  • Explained molecular mechanisms behind brain functions in homeothermic animals.
  • Reviewed latest findings on the molecular mechanisms leading to depression under chronic stress.
  • TRPV4 channels play a crucial role in maintaining near-normal brain temperature even under extreme conditions.
  • Disruption of thermoregulation via TRPV4 can lead to brain diseases and worsening conditions.
  • Molecular mechanisms of how chronic stress leads to depression were elucidated.
