The article analyzes the achievements of Soviet ethnography in the study of the ethnogenesis of the Karakalpaks. It is noted that through the efforts of P.P. Ivanov, S.P.Tolstov, L.S.Tolstova, T.A.Zhdanko and others, the concept of ethnogenesis of the Karakalpaks was first proposed.
