ABSTRACT Supercritical extraction was conducted in a sequential three‐stage process to increase the extraction of antioxidant compounds from Leptocarpha rivularis , at 40°C or 60°C, with Stage 1 at 20 or 25 MPa using CO 2 , Stage 2 at 35 or 50 MPa using CO 2 , and Stage 3 at 35 or 50 MPa using ethanol‐modified CO 2 (5 wt%). The total content of flavonoids and alkaloids was quantified. The antioxidant and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory capacity correlated with the content of bioactive compounds. Sequential supercritical extraction was a useful method to fractionate extracts by increasing pressure or adding a modifier, improving the antioxidant compounds’ solubility.
