Low-cost 2-D sarcomere model illustrates sliding filament theory and titin's role in force regulation.
A low-cost 2-D physical sarcomere model can effectively demonstrate the three-filament theory and the role of titin in muscle contraction.
May facilitate sarcomere physiology teaching; leaves open validation of learning outcomes versus standard methods.
Our physical sarcomere model illustrates not only the classic view of muscle contraction, the sliding filament and cross-bridge theories, but also the newly discovered role of titin in force regulation, called the three-filament theory. The model allows for easy visualization of the role of titin in muscle contraction and aids in explaining complex muscle properties that are not captured by the traditional cross-bridge theory.

Medeiros et al. (2023) studied this question. 2-D physical sarcomere model was evaluated. A low-cost 2-D physical sarcomere model was developed to illustrate the sliding filament theory and the newly discovered role of titin in force regulation.
