We study the light scattered by a dilute solution of polystyrene in a good solvent (benzene) using a light scattering spectrometer. The experimental value of the translational diffusion coefficient shows that the molecular weight dependence of the effective hydrodynamical radius (RH ∼ M0.55±0.02) is different from that of the mean radius of gyration (Rg ∼ M0.6). Otherwise we show that a model of hard spheres taking into account the hydrodynamic and thermodynamic interactions accounts satisfactory for a dilute solution of polymer in good solvent.
