The current concept of the genetic control of protein synthesis has focused attention on the metabolic activities of the cell nucleus, and current work in this Laboratory on the hormonal regulation of nucleic acid and protein synthesis (Widnell Tata, 1963; Freeman, Roodyn & Tata, 1963) necessitated the isolation of nuclei under optimum conditions.
