My Life as a “Theranostician”: A commentary on the evolution of theranostics

Having recently spoken about the legacy that we owe to the pioneers in the field at a meeting organised by the European Society of Molecular Imaging, I was initially perplexed when the Editor-in-Chief of this journal invited me to write about my own personal experiences in the field. However, the more that I thought about it, the more I appreciated the unique perspective that I have gained on molecular imaging and therapeutic nuclear medicine by having lived through a period of unprecedented advances in precision medicine. As an amateur historian, the history of nuclear medicine has always fascinated me and as I enter my anecdotage, I also felt it was an opportunity for me to reminisce about my own metamorphosis into a “theranostician”.
