This article defines the novel concept of health tourism, provides a brief historical overview, reposts on an exploratory study of health tourism relative to the Caribbean, and extends the concept by adding other dimensions of health tourism (e.g., ecotoursim, travel health care service) to that originally proposed by Goodrich and Goodrich (1987). This is followed by a discussion of market segmentation and medical facilities, and suggestions for future research. Health tourism can be a new and effective positioning strategy for tourist destinations.
