To estimate blood pressure (BP) from continuous pulse wave data, this paper proposes a novel BP estimation algorithm based on support vector regression (SVR). The algorithm comprises two main components: SVR modeling and algorithm optimization by using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The time-domain features are extracted from the continuous pulse wave. These extracted features along with the corresponding systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) values, are used as the input and expected output for the training set, respectively. The SVR model of BP based on pulse wave is established. In addition, to increase the accuracy of estimation, the PSO is used to optimize the parameters to obtain the optimal solution of penalty parameter <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">C</tex> and kernel function parameter g. By conducting tests on various samples from the BP database, we validate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed algorithm. The result is an optimized solution that minimizes prediction errors for both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, achieving an error margin of less than 3mmHg. These findings demonstrate its potential for practical application in clinical settings.
