Key result
Highest Life's Essential 8 score linked to ~58% lower ASCVD risk, but not VTE.
Why the study?
ASCVD and VTE share risk factors, and the AHA Life's Simple 7 score was recently upgraded to Life's Essential 8 (LE8), prompting investigation of its prospective association with both conditions.
Does a higher Life's Essential 8 score reduce the risk of ASCVD and VTE in middle-aged men?

Higher LE8 adherence may aid ASCVD prevention in middle-aged men; leaves open VTE effects and needs randomized confirmation.

Does a higher Life's Essential 8 score reduce the risk of ASCVD and VTE in middle-aged men?
Hazard Ratio: 0.42 (95% CI 0.34–0.51)
High adherence to the AHA's Life's Essential 8 metrics is strongly associated with long-term prevention of ASCVD, but not VTE, in middle-aged men.
Isiozor et al. (2023) conducted a cohort in Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and venous thromboembolism (n=1,899). High Life's Essential 8 (LE8) score (Quartile 4) vs. Lowest LE8 quartile (Quartile 1) was evaluated on Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) (HR 0.42, 95% CI 0.34-0.51). The highest quartile of the Life's Essential 8 score was associated with a lower risk of ASCVD (HR 0.42; 95% CI 0.34-0.51) but not VTE (HR 1.02; 95% CI 0.60-1.74) compared to the lowest quartile.
