Why the study?
Is metabolic syndrome and increasing metabolic syndrome score associated with higher pulse pressure in Korean adults?
Is metabolic syndrome and increasing metabolic syndrome score associated with higher pulse pressure in Korean adults?
The presence of metabolic syndrome and a higher metabolic syndrome score are significantly associated with increased pulse pressure, a marker of arterial stiffness.
Should not yet change pulse pressure management; hypothesis-generating for prospective studies on metabolic syndrome and arterial stiffness.
또한 관련변수를 보정한 후 Hyper-PP(>61 mmHg)의 Odd Ratio(OR)값은 MSS 0에 비하여 MSS 1은 4.49(95% confidence interval[CI], 2.68-7.57), MSS 2는 8.01(95% CI, 4.77-13.47), MSS 3은 11.37(95% CI, 6.67-19.35), MSS 4는 19.69(95% CI, 11.20-34.60), MSS 5는 34.07(95% CI, 17.44-66.52)로 MSS가 증가할수록 Hyper-PP의 OR값도 증가하였고, Non-Metabolic syndrome군에 비하여 Metabolic syndrome군[2.83(95% CI, 2.29-3.49)]에서 유의하게 증가하였다. 결론적으로 대사증후군과 MSS의 증가는 맥압을 증가시킨다. The aim of this study was to assess the association of metabolic syndrome, metabolic syndrome score (MSS) and pulse pressure (PP) in Korean adults. The study subjects were Korean adults 20 years or older (n=5,889) who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2012. After adjusting for factors, such as year and gender and BMI, the mean PP increased with increasing MSS (MSS 0, <TEX>41.30±0.34mmHg</TEX> and MSS 1, <TEX>42.16±0.31mmHg</TEX> and MSS 2, <TEX>44.73±0.34mmHg</TEX> and MSS, 3, <TEX>46.46±0.42mmHg</TEX> and MSS 4, <TEX>48.62±0.58mmHg</TEX> and MSS 5, <TEX>53.50±1.05mmHg</TEX>), and the mean PP for metabolic syndrome(<TEX>47.25±0.34mmHg</TEX>) increased in comparison to Non-Metabolic syndrome (<TEX>42.77±0.19mmHg</TEX>). When logistic regression analysis was performed, the odds ratio (OR) of Hyper-PP (61> PP) for MSS 0 was 4.49 in MSS 1 (95% confidence interval[CI], 2.68-7.57) and 8.01 in MSS 2 (95% CI, 4.77-13.47) and 11.37 in MSS 3 (95% CI, 6.67-19.35) and 19.69 in MSS 4 (95% CI, 11.20-34.60) and 34.07 in MSS 5 (95% CI, 17.44-66.52), metabolic syndrome was associated with an increased Hyper-PP(OR 4.6, 95% CI, 2.0-10.4). Conclusion. These results suggest that an increase in MSS or metabolic syndrome might increase the pulse pressure.
