As the incidence of divorce and sl!bsequent remarriage in the United States continues to increase, the problems associated with the developmental tasks of such remarriage become more relevant. An analysis of causal explanations for the increasingly common nature of remarriage after divorce is followed by a description of six developmental tasks which are faced by persons approaching the status passage from divorced to remarried. This developmental process is an extension of Paul Bohannan's six stations of divorce and consists of the emotional, psychic, community, parental, economic, and legal stations of remarriage.
