Gout is a disorder that manifests as a spectrum of clinical and pathologic features built on a foundation of an excess body burden of uric acid, manifested in part by hyperuricemia.We developed two-part American College of R h e u m a t o l o g y g o u t g u i d e l i n e s , a t a n i n t e r n a t i o n a l l e v e l , f o r a c u t e t r e a t m e n t , prophylaxis, and chronic management of gout.The guidelines were developed using evidence and consensus-based methodology.These guidelines are applicable for rheumatologists and other health care providers, including other subspecialists, primary care practitioners, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and allied health professionals.
