Key result
Age links to adaptations in atrial gene expression, action potentials, and calcium transients in pediatric CHD.
Why the study?
Knowledge regarding the temporal changes that cardiomyocytes undergo during postnatal development remains limited.
Observational
Findings in pediatric CHD atria should not alter management; leaves open age-specific mechanisms for prospective validation.
To date, our knowledge of the temporal changes that cardiomyocytes undergo during postnatal development is limited. In this study, we demonstrate age-dependent adaptations in the gene expression profile of >100 atrial tissue samples collected from congenital heart disease patients. We coupled transcriptomics datasets with computational modeling to simulate action potentials and calcium transients for different pediatric age groups.

Salameh et al. (2024) conducted an observational in Congenital heart disease. Postnatal development (age) vs. Different pediatric age groups was evaluated on Age-dependent adaptations in gene expression profile, action potentials, and calcium transients. Age-dependent adaptations in gene expression profiles, action potentials, and calcium transients were demonstrated in >100 atrial tissue samples from pediatric congenital heart disease patients.
