A case of intracardiac myxoma presented with acute aortic and bilateral iliac arterial occlusion due to tumor emboli following a severe cough.
Case Report (n=1)
Highlights a rare but severe complication of intracardiac myxoma presenting as acute aortic and bilateral iliac arterial occlusion due to tumor embolization.
May prompt myxoma consideration in post-cough arterial occlusion; hypothesis-generating for embolization triggers.
Cardiac myxoma usually arises from the left atrial cavities. Embolism caused by necrotic tumor fragments or thrombi from the surface of the myxoma is a well-known clinical entity, which results in variant clinical presentation depending on the location of embolic events. We report the imaging and histopathologic findings of a case of intracardiac myxoma complicating with acute aortic and bilateral iliac arterial occlusion due to tumor emboli after severe cough.
