Fluorine is special. Its presence in organic molecules is associated with unexpected properties, such as weak hydrogen-bond-acceptor strength (see figure) and striking differences between the behavior of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbon-fluorocarbon mixtures. Possible reasons are discussed.
