A study of the photoinitiating system eosin/UV‐photoinitiator/amine has been carried out through time resolved laser spectroscopy. Rates of polymerization of methyl methacrylate have been determined. A model for the photoinitiation step is proposed: the efficient role played by the UV‐photoinitiator is mainly explained in terms of interactions in the excited states; a small contribution to a decrease of the termination reactions of the growing polymer chains by eosinderived radicals is also shown.
