Citing positive as well as negative experiences related to international adoption, the author analyzes some underlying issues as well as current trends related to this topic. Basic theological and legal and social work principles are identified to guide a deeper reflection on such issues. A new model of church‐based, international child welfare service is presented as an attempt to address the complex needs inherent in this topic in a balanced and action‐oriented manner.
