The importance of brackish water lagoon, Chilika for hotspot of biodiversity in Asian continent was studied vigorouslyto value the water quality for conservation of biodiversity. The water quality index for biodiversity (WQIB) is themeasurement tool used for assessment of biodiversity. The study covers 16 sampling locations for the selectedparameters to monitor monthly during the period (2011- 2015). The individual sectors of the lagoon possess uniquecharacteristics. The water quality of northern sector highly deteriorated compared to other sectors. Water quality of theouter channel is least infected. The study highlighted that the summer season is the best period for enrichment ofbiodiversity and monsoon is the worst period for the biodiversity conservation.
