In- and inter-vehicle networking is one of the most exciting topics in todays vehicle concepts. State of the art net- works in cars which are configured in a very specific and fixed manner have reached their conceptional limit. Todays approach is integration into an overall network, which guarantees an effective and lasting communication over years. Ad-hoc network concepts seem to provide powerful and flexible features. This paper discusses an ad-hoc networking concept, its advantages and disadvantages. A proposal is made how such a network can easily be used and managed. I. INTRODUCTION Modern vehicles already have a number of networking systems built in. With todays concepts every network has its own dedicated use in its application domain. They are optimised, e.g. for data rate, reliability, synchronisation and last but not least for cost. Communication concepts through- out the applications domain are only existing as application gateways, not as an inter-networking concept. With increas- ing communication's complexity, due to the need for reusing information source components, the application domains can hardly be splitted. Intelligent power saving methods, com- prising customer devices increase again communication's and network's complexity. With this, the networks progression is towards ad-hoc networking. An integrating dynamic communication scheme based on the application's communication session is described within this paper. The following chapter II analyses the in-car communica- tion complexity and the communication parameters. Chapter III reflects the communication layer models as they are known from internetworking and OSI (Open Systems Inter- connection). A solution for session based communication as a proposal is introduced in chapter IV. Chapter V discusses a possible way to implement the proposal and in chapter VI in-car ad-hoc parameters are analysed. Finally chapter VII gives a summary and conclusion.
