Why the study?
Perioperative neurocognitive disorders, including POCD and delirium, adversely affect neurocognitive domains and present a major challenge in an aging surgical population.
This review highlights that perioperative neurocognitive disorders in cardiovascular surgery are multifactorial and not solely caused by cardiopulmonary bypass, emphasizing the importance of multidisciplinary perioperative management.
Does not support altering bypass strategies based on cognitive risk; leaves open multifactorial causes of perioperative neurocognitive disorders.
