Chairpersons of marketing departments were contacted in a national survey regarding their promotion expectations for faculty. The results are analyzed by level of faculty member (assistant, associate, full professor) and highest degree offered by the school. The teaching, scholarship, and service expectations for each level of professor and type of program are examined separately. While many expected relationships are found, unexpected promotion expectations were uncovered for some positions and programs.
