The reported clinical frequency of carcinoma of the colon among patients with ulcerative colitis is lowest in surveys of medically managed patients, approximately 2%; intermediate among patients treated surgically, approximately 8%; and highest among patients with ulcerative colitis for 10 years or longer or in children with ulcerative colitis.
