Urban Development, Public Services, and Women Beneficiaries: Problem Areas from Women’s Perspective

Urban services encompass services designed to meet cities’ socio-economic and environmental needs. In Türkiye, the varying levels of urban development are reflected in the quality of urban services and the level of satisfaction among city residents. This study aims to reveal the attitudes of women who benefit from public services in cities with different levels of urban development. Within the scope of the research, provinces in Türkiye were classified into five different levels based on the 2017 data from Türkiye’s Socio-Economic Development Index (SEDI). Two cities were selected from each level, and data were collected from nine cities using a mixed method. The study found that the inadequacy of basic urban public services prevents women from being visible in the town and participating in social life. As cities develop, residents’ evaluations of urban services become more positive.
