• The goal of the assessment procedure is to determine the mine-specific and tourist values of each show mine, based on the obtained research results. Furthermore, future development strategies will be determined, which can be of crucial importance for the management organizations of the explored show mines. The analysis and assessment of the sites in Switzerland represents the importance for the local population as well as the sustainable aspects of utilization and management of mines from a socio-economic perspective. The final results will be presented graphically in a matrix that will clearly indicate the relationship between mine-specific and tourist values, as well as advantages and disadvantages of each show mine individually. • The final results of the assessment are shown in MSV-TV matrix, which presents the relationship between mine-specific and tourist values for each show mine in this study. The results of this methodology should provide insights into the current state of the evaluated show mines. The maximum attainable scores for MSV and TV are determined based on the comprehensive scoring system employed in the assessment method. For MSV, with its 10 sub-indicators, the maximum score per mine is 250, calculated by multiplying the highest possible score (25) with each sub-indicator. Similarly, for TV, which consists of 26 sub-indicators, the maximum score is 650. • For the evaluated show mines, it is necessary to focus on specific tourist value factors. This includes strategies to increase visitor numbers, improve visitor experience through multilingual services and interpretive content, and enhance overall site accessibility. Addressing these factors will support the sustainable integration of heritage preservation with tourism development. With the potential increase of TV, all of the assessed show mines could fall into "utmost value fields" or secure a firmer position within the current SMAM matrix fields. • The dual focus on mine-specific values (MSV) and tourist values (TV) enables a comprehensive evaluation for the development of strategic frameworks and targeted interventions for each show mine. Based on the performed assessment, the following strategies should be implemented. This study provides a comprehensive assessment of underground mining heritage and mine tourism in Switzerland, highlighting the significance of mines not only as sources of valuable natural resources but also as integral parts of geological heritage and cultural identity. The research focuses on ten selected show mines, analyzing their scientific and tourism potential. The assessment modelling includes a novel evaluation model, which was utilized in order to determine the unique values and future development strategies. By examining the geological, historical, socio-economic, and tourist aspects, the study underscores the importance of sustainable tourism practices and the role of mines in local community development. The findings aim to enhance the management and promotion of mine tourism in Switzerland, offering insights into the preservation of mining heritage and the enhancement of tourism experiences.
