Abstract

The possibility that diabetes mellitus, a common condition in many popula-tions, may increase the risk of hepato-cellular carcinoma (HCC) has been raised in a number of cohort and case– control studies (1–12). In particular, this hypothesis received strong support from two large population-based cohort stud-ies, one undertaken in Sweden (13) and the other in Denmark (14).
