The goals of health education emerge from the goals of the society within which it functions. They are not something apart; and when society under-goes change so must its constituent parts. At the present moment, it is quite clear that educational systems must find new directions; public health must appeal to reason; industry and labor must work out solutions wherein human aspirations and technology serve each other; and every citizen must now know what freedom is and the responsibilities of being a free man. But we here tonight are concerned with only a small segment of living. I t is the segment for which we, with others, are responsible, namely, public health and health education. The time is opportune for us to look at our commitment to the future. To do this I have posed four questions for myself: 1. Is the health of the public a necessary and suficient goal for you and me? 2. What existing conditions indicate need for a broader goal?
Dorothy B. Nyswander (Wed,) studied this question.
