An exact analytical method is derived for the calculation of the direct Coulomb interaction matrix elements between two hydrogen atoms in their ground states. Explicit interaction potentials for the process H(1s) + H(1s) -> H(nl) + H(primenprimel) are presented. The long-range interaction arising from double transitions is also discussed.
