This Special Issue marks the end of the Community Development Journal's twenty fifth year. Our aim, in the following pages, is to identify and reflect upon the changes which have taken place over the twenty five years of the Journal's existence, and to assess the pressures, contradictions and opportunities which face community development at the present time. What are the prospects for community development in the 1990s and beyond? And what strategies should we be adopting? Some of these questions will be addressed at a workshop sponsored by the CDJ as this Issue is published and we hope to report back on the outcome of the workshop early next year.
