The empirical formula proposed recently relating wind‐stress coefficient to wind velocity, C 10 = (0.8 + 0.065 U 10 ) × 10 −3 , appears to be applicable even in hurricanes. This formula also agrees with the correlation curve proposed earlier, C 10 = κ/ln(1/ aC 10 F 2 ) 2 , F = U 10 /( gZ ) 1/2 , where a = 0.0185 is the Charnock constant and Z = 10 m is the anemometer height.
