Abstract Analysis of phytohaemagglutinin-induced mitoses of mouse blood lymphocytes indicated that virtually all cells involved had been ‘processed ’ by the thymus prior to becoming part of the circulating lymphocyte pool. It is suggested that this finding may be of significance in the interpretation of the phytohaemagglutinin reaction as used in clinical medicine.
