The 12‐metallacrown‐3 complexes [(C 6 H 5 Me)Ru(C 5 H 3 NO 2 )] 3 ( 3 ), [(C 6 H 3 i Pr 3 )Ru(C 5 H 3 NO 2 )] 3 ( 4 ) and [(C 6 Me 6 )Ru(C 5 H 3 NO 2 )] 3 ( 5 ) were synthesizes by reaction of the corresponding [(arene)RuCl 2 ] 2 complex with 2,3‐dihydroxypyridine in the presence of base. Addition of LiCl in methanol gave the adducts 3× LiCl, 4× LiCl and 5× LiCl. The complexes 3 , 3× LiCl and 4× LiCl were analyzed by single crystal X‐ray crystallography. The ability of the metallacrown complexes to differentiate between the isotopes 6 Li + and 7 Li + was investigated by isotope selective laser graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy. It was found that the macrocycle 5 preferentially binds to the smaller isotope 7 Li + .
