A subjective quality test was performed to determine the extent to which low level and high level audio-video degradations are forgiven over time. The results show that the forgiveness effect is initially greater for high level degradations. However, the forgiveness effect is more prolonged for low level degradations. A new method for calculating the forgiveness effect, based on rate of change in quality ratings over time, is presented.
