The authors describe three ways of capturing uncertainty in power system computation: probabilistic methods; fuzzy arithmetic techniques; and interval mathematics. The advantages and disadvantages of each, the manner in which results from each technique must be interpreted, and the limitations of each methods are discussed. The application of these methods to the power flow problem and extensions to optimum power flows and security calculations are described. The emphasis is on a comparison of features of each approach in the context of power systems applications.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
