The topic of energy production serves as the introduction, and then the editors progress through specific exercise physiology topics as well as the physiology and biomechanics of specific sports. A comprehensive treatment of these topics does not exist in any other single book. The editors succeed in providing a useful compilation. AUDIENCE: According to the editors, the book is written for all serious students of sports medicine, including but not limited to exercise physiologists, biomechanists, and sport medicine physicians. The editors and contributors are respected authorities in the chosen areas. The chapters are written for a broad audience and can be understood with a basic exercise science background. ASSESSMENT: Few books offer the breadth of information covered in this text. Compared to another text with coverage of sport specific biomechanics by Hay, The Biomechanics of Sports Techniques, 4th Edition (Allyn and Bacon, 1993), the material in this book is more current, and the editors cover more topics and provide greater detail.
