A questionnaire was filled out anonymously by 167 undergraduate majors in psychology. Ss provided information about age, sex, total credits, credits in psychology, GPA, ranking of fields of interest, occupational use of the major, reasons for choosing psychology, intention to pursue graduate work, and application to and acceptance by graduate schools. Results indicated an overwhelming popularity of applied areas (abnormal, personality, and developmental), a misunderstanding of the occupational value of a bachelor’s degree in psychology, the insignificance of GPA as a determinant of admission into graduate programs, and the subject matter itself as the most dominant reason for majoring in psychology.
