Pilsicainide decreased the maximum rate of depolarization and prolonged action potential duration by inhibiting the slow inward calcium current, delayed rectifier potassium current, and hyperpolarization-activated inward current in rabbit atrioventricular node cells.
Why the study?
Does pilsicainide alter the electrophysiological properties of rabbit atrioventricular node cells?
Does pilsicainide alter the electrophysiological properties of rabbit atrioventricular node cells?
Pilsicainide suppresses atrioventricular node conduction and prolongs the refractory period by blocking Ca2+ and K+ channels, providing a mechanistic basis for its use in supraventricular tachyarrhythmias.
Hypothesis-generating for pilsicainide's AV nodal effects in rabbits; leaves open translation to human supraventricular arrhythmia therapy.

Suzuki et al. (1992) studied Normal rabbit atrioventricular node cells. Pilsicainide vs. Control (Tyrode solution) was evaluated on Membrane currents (Isi, IK, Ih) and action potential parameters. Pilsicainide decreased the maximum rate of depolarization and prolonged action potential duration by inhibiting the slow inward calcium current, delayed rectifier potassium current, and hyperpolarization-activated inward current in rabbit atrioventricular node cells.
