This article analyzes genealogical constructions in families from the 22nd and 23rd Dynasties, highlighting unique strategies and motivations.
Summary The emphasis on genealogy is a significant characteristic of the Libyan Period, with the non-royal statues serving as key mediums for recording genealogies. This article focuses on three prominent families in the 22 nd and 23 rd Dynasties ( (A) family, Ns-r-Jmn family, and family) and analyses how they constructed their genealogies and the motivations behind these constructions. The construction of genealogy involves two crucial aspects: the selection between patrilineal and matrilineal ancestors and the decision whether to document extended genealogies. During this process, different families made distinct choices, resulting in genealogies that reflect their different self-presentation strategies.
