Evaluates sexual dysfunctions in problematic and non-problematic porn users in young men, suggesting higher risks for problematic users.
Introduction Pornography use among men is universal. Most of Pornography Users (PU) are for recreational purposes without any consequences. A subset of porn users are characterized by loss of control, distress, or interference with daily life and sexual relationships. These are called Problematic Porn Users (PPU). Recent online surveys have highlighted that although ordinary porn use shows minimal impact on sexual function, problematic use is increasingly linked with sexual dysfunctions, particularly erectile dysfunction, low desire, and difficulty with partnered arousal. The frequency and intensity of these dysfunctions are significantly higher among PPU compared to non PPU. Studies on the frequency of PU, PPU; sexual dysfunctions in PU and PPU are sectorial and fragmented. There are no comprehensive studies on this problem in India. Objective To evaluate the frequency of PU, PPU, Sexual dysfunctions in PU and PPU - in young men in India Methods Survey was done in India on young men between 18 and 40 years of age by an online questionnaire. The target men are PU, and one subset of porn users--Self Identified PPU. The information gathered is – age of initiation to porn use, the extent of the current porn use, and dysfunctions encountered in these men. Men with erection problem are validated by International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) score and men with PPU are identified with Brief Pornography Scale (BPS). Premature Ejaculation (PE) and lack of sex desire are not validated by any scale. Results 9800 young male porn users responded to the questionnaire. Of these 540 (5.51%) identified themselves as PPU. 81.6% of Self identified PPU men are validated as PPU by BPS. 13.26% of PU complained of erection problem. 25.93% of PPU men had ED confirmed by IIEF. Among the PU, 1.43% of men had both PPU and ED confirmed by BPS and IIEF. In men with erection failures, 10.77% had PPU 22.7% of PU men complained of PE 28.46% of PPU men complained of PE None had delayed ejaculation. Lack of sex desire is seen in 4.3% of PU and in 1.7% in PPU. Lack of desire towards partnered sex was seen in 3.2% of PU and in 8.2% of PPU men. Conclusions The global PPU is in the range of 3-16% in different studies. Indian study also aligns with these figures. Problematic pornography scores are associated with higher self-reported sexual difficulties in multiple web-based surveys. ED in PPU is 100% more to ED in PU. Prevalence of PE is not significantly different in PU and PPU. Lack of sex desire in partnered sex is 100% more than lack of sex desire in general, indicating that PPU are more inclined to self centred sex. Disclosure No
