Evaluates semantic complexity of physics equations, suggesting improved learning outcomes.
The article considers the problem of estimating the semantic complexity of physical equations. Its solution makes it possible to optimize the learning process, create adaptive learning computer systems, properly manage student workload, develop assessment materials and balanced tests. The proposed method for assessing the complexity of physical equations is as follows: the equations are written in a verbal code, scientific terms are identified in the resulting text and their complexities are summarized. The complexity of a scientific term is understood as the number of simple (obvious to a fifth grader pupil) words required to define or explain the es-sence of the designated concept. It is established that the non-stationary Schrodinger equation in short notation and in Cartesian coordinates, the stationary Schrodinger equation in Cartesian coordinates and the equation of thermal conductivity for a inhomogeneous medium have the highest complexity. Of Maxwell's four equations, the most complex is the equation expressing the magnetic field circulation theorem, which is about 7.8 times more complex than Ohm's law for a complete circuit.
