Research determines unknotting numbers in two-bridge knots, suggesting new insights on knot deformation.
The [Formula: see text]-unknotting number for a knot is defined as the minimum number of [Formula: see text]-moves needed to deform the knot into the trivial knot. We determine the [Formula: see text]-unknotting numbers for two-bridge knots of type [Formula: see text] and type [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is a positive integer for [Formula: see text]. We also discuss two-bridge knots whose [Formula: see text]-unknotting number is equal to one.
