Innovative course integrates software coding with Tujia dance education, suggesting new cultural interpretations.
This article examines an innovative course integrating software coding with the Tujia dance program, a traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage. By bridging dance and programming, the course challenges the perceived divide between emotion driven physical expression and logical digital code. Students engage in translating cultural rhythms and gestures into computational models, fostering what I term “cultural programming literacy.” Through this interdisciplinary approach, students learn to reinterpret tradition as a dynamic system, blending logic with emotional understanding. Ultimately, the course cultivates new ways of understanding and preserving culture, encouraging students to become active interpreters who bridge the worlds of art and technology.
