Colour encoded endocardial tracking is a promising echocardiographic technique for real-time assessment of regional and global ventricular function.
Colour encoded endocardial tracking is a new echocardiographic technique designed to track ventricular wall endocardial motion and thus help in assessing both regional and global ventricular function. It is an extension of automatic boundary detection, a technique based on integrated backscatter analysis. By utilizing automated boundary detection, colour encoded endocardial tracking automatically tracks endocardial motion on a frame by frame basis. Colour overlays are then superimposed on the grey-scale images. These colour overlays are updated in real time, providing an integrated display of the magnitude and timing of endocardial wall motion. With further post-processing analysis, this technique can provide quantitative information on both global and regional ventricular systolic and diastolic function.
