Discussion paper emphasizes the need for improved data collection methods in transport research to address gender disparities.
The issue of gender in transport planning and research has occasionally been discussed for a while now. Despite this long history, not much has been done in terms of concrete implementation, making it still relevant to talk about these aspects. The gender data gap in surveys on travel behaviour is often discussed as a central topic in the field of gender and mobility. This means that certain trip patterns cannot be mapped by current data collection methods, resulting in a ‘gap’ in our data. Achieving gender equitable transport surveys requires the research community to be aware of this problem. For this reason, this discussion paper provides a literature-based problem analysis of the field of gender and mobility research in order to sensitise researchers and encourage them to conduct more in-depth research in this area. Building on this, we conclude with the need for further research.
