Randomized trial compares glycemic outcomes using Instinct and Simplera Sync sensors in type 1 diabetes, highlighting sensor performance consistency.
Introduction and Objective: The MM780G system, integrated with a new 15-day sensor has been launched for commercial use in the United States, and is pending EU approval. This offers a third sensor option for the MM780G advanced hybrid closed-loop (AID) system, alongside the existing Simplera Sync TM sensor and Guardian TM 4 sensor. We evaluated the performance of the new sensor in a RCT. Methods: The RCT was a crossover study design comparing 6 weeks of MM780G system with the new sensor, Instinct™ with 6 weeks of using Simplera Sync TM sensor in people with type 1 diabetes using the MM780G AID system. The outcomes analyzed, focused on system usage, Time in Range metrics (TBR, TIR, TAR), mean sensor glucose, GMI, and HbA1c. Results: and completed the study, 8 of whom were females. The mean age was 49.3 ± 13.4 years, and the mean weight was 77.9 ± 15.9 kg. Diabetes duration was average of 21.1±12.9 years (range: 4-49 years). The glycemic outcomes are described in table 1. The mean baseline HbA1c was 6.3 ± 0.7%. The HbA1c at the end of the Simplera phase and the Instinct Phase were 6.70 ± 0.72 % and 6.76 ± 0.68 % respectively. No statistically significant changes in HbA1c and no clinical significant difference in CGM metrics between the sensors were noted. Conclusion: The MM780G system demonstrated interoperability with different glucose sensors, providing similar at goal range of HbA1c, below 6.7 %, with both Simplera SyncTM and InstinctTM sensors.
